Launch of the process toward a new
European Declaration on Global Education to 2050

About the Process

The purpose of the process was to inspire broader and deeper political support and policy commitment to Global Education. How?

  • By establishing a series of strategic and practical proposals for developing a new European Declaration on Global Education to 2050.

  • By inviting national ministries and agencies, international organisations and key stakeholders in Global Education in Europe to engage in vision-making, policy consensus and declaration agreement.

The process culminated in November 2022, on the 20th anniversary of the first Maastricht Congress and Declaration.

About the Launch

On the occasion of GENE's 20th Anniversary, on 14 June 2021, with over 250 global educators and policymakers from across Europe, GENE hosted a high-level political event to launch an 18-month process leading to the development of a new European Declaration on Global Education to 2050. The EU Commissioner for International Partnerships, Ms. Jutta Urpilainen, opened the event, while Ministers of Education, Foreign Affairs and International Development from across Europe engaged in a dialogue on the importance of Global Education to education policy, foreign policy and international cooperation.
